Sustainability at Wren

At Wren Urban Nest our goal is to lead the way in sustainability. Constructed using the most advanced sustainable technologies, Wren is Ireland’s first net carbon place to stay and one of the country’s only “A” Ber accommodation providers. The building’s energy efficiency was recognised at the 2022 SEAI Energy Awards, as winner in the energy in buildings category. Wren also proudly won the best energy achievement award in tourism and entertainment at the Business Energy Awards 2023.

We aim to deliver on our commitment to protecting the planet in everything we do, our sustainability journey is constantly evolving and developing as we work on new projects and initiatives that benefit the environment. Here are some of the highlights of our sustainable activities and new projects.

Zero-Waste, Fossil Free Kitchen

ALT restaurant & bar is committed to sustainability. All our ingredients are organic and locally sourced. We support Irish businesses and spend time researching our suppliers to ensure what we serve is ethically produced. The team at ALT make every effort to reduce waste; from sending packaging back to producers to utilising every ingredient in the kitchen (hello wonky veg!). We have also teamed up with world’s largest anti-food waste app, Too Good To Go to list surplus, unsold food which can be purchased at a discount at the end of each day. It’s a planet-friendly app which is easy to use and is a great help in the fight against food waste. When food is made with passion you can taste it in every bite!

Wren Bees

At Wren Urban Nest we do all we can to help our lovely planet and we think the bees have a big part to play. We have partnered with the sustainable bee keeping company Open Hive so we can have our own bees and produce Wren honey! Our bees are homed at the foothills of the Dublin Mountains, in a nectar rich environment. Open Hive have sustainability at the core of everything they do from maintaining local diversity to reusing jars, which is just one of the many reasons we love working with them.

Reusable Cups

Taking care of what you own, reusing and recycling are the key elements of a successful circular economy. half a million disposable coffee cups are sent to landfill every day in Ireland, and this has a huge environmental impact. At Wren, we believe that sustainability starts at home and that’s why we have supplied our team with re-usable Wren cups to use when they are out and about. The smallest contributions can make a difference and switching to a reusable cup is an easy way to reduce paper waste.

Rooftop Garden

We wanted to support the city's biodiversity with a rooftop garden. While the roof is not accessible to guests, we wanted to keep the insects of Dublin happy with a small but diverse garden in the centre of Dublin. The team are working on creating a great garden full of lots of lovely wildflowers where the bees, beetles, and butterflies amongst others, can find food and shelter. Make sure to keep an on our Instagram page where we will keep you up to date with the progress of our garden
