Bog Bodies at The National Museum

Just a short stroll from Wren lies the National Museum of Ireland. One of three branches located around the city, the Kildare Street brand focuses on Archaeology (you will find Decorative Arts & History in Collins Barracks and the Natural History Museum on Merrion Street). The museum is full of wonderful exhibitions that span from over the years and one of our favourites is the Bog Bodies.

A fascinating exhibition based around the finding of the bog bodies research project that took place a few years after the discovery of two bog bodies, one in Meath and one in Offaly. The preservation of the bodies was very good considering the length of time the bodies lay in the ground. The “Cashel Man” is the oldest fleshed body to be found anywhere.

Visit the exhibition and learn about Bronze Age Human sacrifice and Kingship rituals. View the remains of the “Cashel Man”, “Gallagh Man” and “Baronstown West Man”, royal regalia, horse trappings, weapons and feasting utensils. Immerse yourself in the history of the Bronze Age and learn all about the people that lived so long ago.
