Is the Dublin Castle Christmas Market on this year?
No. The Dublin Castle Christmas Market is paused for 2025 and 2026 while the Castle prepares for Ireland's EU Presidency, and is expected to return in 2027. Dublin's festive scene is still going strong, with TwinkleTown at Smithfield Square and Dublin Loves Christmas at the RDS stepping in as the main markets. Dublin Castle still hosts New Year's Festival events over New Year's Eve.
How many days do you need in Dublin in winter?
Three to four days is ideal. That covers the main sights, a market or two, a day trip (Howth, Malahide or the Wicklow Mountains), and still leaves time for long pub lunches out of the cold.
Is Dublin a good place to spend Christmas?
Very. The run-up brings markets, carol singers and twinkling lights across the city. One thing to plan for Christmas Day (25 Dec) and St. Stephen's Day (26 Dec) are very quiet most shops, restaurants and public transport shut down so book those days around your hotel and any meals in advance.
